Under the umbrella, kindle or book? 5 + 6 things to know. – Cultora (Blog)

Summer is here for a while ‘and a big must each year remains the problem of what to take to the beach to cope with the extreme heat, especially if you are pet bed and spend hours and hours in the sun. I’m not talking about protection creams, juices and tanning, but readings, rather than readers.

My first kindle

In December I I took my first e-reader, in this case a kindle. In the end, however, more or less they have almost all the same features so the choice on the brand is very subjective. After a month to choose which one to take, kindle, kobo or Tolino, discounts amazon made me lean towards the latter, in particular for the paperwrite , which, being also illuminated, allowing the evening reading without the use of lamps.

Since the feedback on the web is the master in guiding the choices of consumers before purchase, the (my) decision times before clicking “buy” themselves dilated.

The big question remained: but the convenience of bringing your library in your pocket will offset the loss of that magic that only the smell of ink and paper you can give? With those € 130 cost of the kindle, how many books I could buy? With Spotify before and after kindle, what I regaleranno my friends, they knew that with a disc or a book would make me happy? Pants pink polka dots? And I, what I got? These are important questions to ask before taking sides.

But let’s analyze all the doubts that can capture card lovers remained hesitant as I was before the big step.

1 – With the electronic book I toil eyes

False. E-readers using e-ink, electronic ink. The thing I can not believe is that you really feel like reading a book. Both for the effect ink, both for the effect the page, and you can read for hours without eye strain, just like the paper book.

2 – I already have a tablet, It is the same thing

False. Do not make the mistake of thinking that you have both the tablet so by downloading the free app (kindle or kobo that is) you’ll save on your purchase of e-reader having the same yield. The lighting of the tablet is similar to that of the computer and is quite different from that of the e-reader. After a few hours you will struggle to continue reading, especially if like me used even contact lenses. For more on the beach where there is a lot of light is almost impossible to read on tablets. Finally, the weight of an e-reader is well below that of a tablet, and this is an important factor in the long run.

It is true that the app for tablets have many more features, like to stress with various colors, and you can change the background color.

Let’s say then that can replace the e-reader for reading pdf of work, where some feature in more does not hurt .

3 – With the book I have to take to the beach the charger

Ni. To quote Amazon, the battery lasts hours, but weeks . Clearly sometimes it goes too loaded. Apply the usual advice, if you read in airplane mode (disabling wifi except that during the purchase of ebook you do not need much) and read on the beach where there is light enough to not have to use lighting of ‘e-reader, the charger will be (almost) a thing, as the examination of the fifth grade.

4 – But what are then these conveniences?

  1. cloud. Your purchases, your emphasis, your documents, once the device connects via wifi, are perfectly synchronized ensuring a better user experience that allows easily switch from e-readers to tablet computers to smartphones. Trust that is not a bad thing, especially when it comes to working documents and are “smemorini” like me that sometimes something you forget in the house.
  2. In the reading of books purchased on Amazon, you can see the more steps outlined by other readers and, if you like, share them on social.
  3. To have the library in my pocket along with the working documents. And when I say
pocket are seriously. The kindle is in the pocket of the jacket as well as in the back of his pants.
Especially for working papers, is the turning point. As many of you have ultra lightweight laptop and ipad, if the documents are long e-reader beats all for practicality and lightness.
  4. To be able to read with one hand. My favorite
. Let’s face it, read and mark a book or document on a bus, metro or train on a regional standing is not something easy. It should be better on high speed but is much less economic. And what about the sea, the sun, with one hand while you make shade or keep an iced drink.
With e-reader read and change the page with one hand .
  5. The notes and underlines
can to point out all the steps you want and add notes . The highlights and notes will be readily at hand and form a kind of summary or best of the book available wherever you are.
  6. The timing
kindle With just a touch to know How long it will remain at the end of the chapter or the book. Sounds silly but it is a factor that stimulates me very personally to continue reading to reach a small goal each time knowing how we employ.

5 – But I love the paper, € 130 are not thrown away?

The real big question whose answer will lead you to the conclusion that it makes sense to make the investment.

The average cost of e- book leads to a saving of 40/60% compared to paper books. If we consider the books no longer covered by copyright (for understood the great classics, when 70 years have passed since the death of the author), savings reached 90% when they are not even free. This means that if you are a good player, with a year of e-books will have covered the cost of your kindle, through savings on paper book. Ergo you tried something new without burdening your budget and if you do not like, you have a gift ready for a family that wanted him.

But then beats kindle book?

No. At least for me. In these months I alternate e-books in paper books. Sometimes I appreciated the convenience of the kindle, sometimes I missed the smell of the paper. Usually they were gifts or books that I already had at home. Except in one case, where I had the book * but I preferred to buy its electronic version, which fortunately was half of that paper.
Why buy a book twice? You try it to hold 1,200 pages in his jacket pocket!

My estimate made based on my habits (I read a lot on the media or on the train or in a row), which provides over 300 pages is the best ‘e-book for practical or weight and space in your bag.

In general I think the e-reader should be used in an integrated manner. Maybe for me I wish all publishers regalassero Version to whoever buys paper books. I would buy more. How do the record companies that offer with vinyl version mp3. It’s exactly the same thing.

I like being able to read anything in a few grams of weight, and at the same time give me one afternoon in library to choose a book for myself or as a gift.

There is a struggle between paper and digital, is only an improvement, integration precisely. For the working documents and the e-reader is really a great tool.

Perhaps the newspapers become online in a few years, but no books, have a different magic that people will want to preserve. How do I know? I know why certain things are resistant to time, to fashion, to technology. Resisting because when you read stories to your child, do not want to do illuminated by the cold light of a screen, you will want a book in the warm light of a lamp.
And the kindle? What will you use it to avoid waking your wife sleeping.

VincenzoTiani

* Want to know what’s the book I bought twice?

Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts, the best book I’ve read so far. The true story of an escaped convict from an Australian prison who finds refuge in Bombay. There is everything, life and death, love and hate, friendship, betrayal, murder, crime, good deeds. Just to not create high expectations.

Kindle Unlimited exceeds 1 million books, 25,600 are in Italian – HDblog (Blog)

Even in Italy, the selection Kindle Unlimited now exceeds 1 million titles . Of these, about 25,600 are in Italian. It’s a goal numerically reached a few weeks ago, but only recently highlighted in relation to the new policy on Amazon payments to authors “page to read” – or, better, to KENPC: Kindle Edition Normalized Page Count.

Despite the discussions on the amounts due to the self-published authors (about $ 0.006 on page , in June 2015 Unlimited Edition subscribers have read a total of 1.9 billion pages) is however an increase in membership and, consequently, the number of securities included in the subscription.

Still in Italy, we have gone from 800,000 titles for the European launch in November 2014 to 1,024,835 today. At the same time, the Kindle ebook Unlimited increased from 15,000 to 25,649 Italian bonds . Whereas in August 2015 Kindle Store has a catalog of about 3,736,000 titles, have more than 1,025,000 “compatible” with Unlimited means that about 27% joined the membership system offered by Amazon. It will be interesting to go back on these numbers in a few months.

Kindle Unlimited works like an online library. They pay € 9.90 per month and gives access to a catalog of dedicated ebook, Italian and foreign, that can be downloaded, read and sync freely on Kindle ebook reader. Amazon allows you to try the service for 30 days before deciding whether to join or leave it alone. The catalog titles cover a bit ‘all kinds (from comics to classic tales to the pink), but do not include all of the best-selling, all the news and all the publishers Kindle Store; on the contrary, the greatest critical Kindle Unlimited concerns the selection “cheesy” of titles.

50 Shades of Grey is the kindle best selling of all time – melty.it

The trilogy & quot; 50 Shades & quot; full

I’m only five years are the Kindle and the history books already seems changed. The successful books spread through e-books, being downloaded from the web with a single click, and no longer through libraries paper. To find out what are the most popular books in recent years, in fact, do not look at the awards Witch or the volumes sold by Mondadori and Feltrinelli. Where you have to look it is in the ranking of most digital books purchased on the web. No wonder then see the first 10 positions of the kindle Amazon sellers ever since: to celebrate the five years since the birth of digital books, the company Bezos has released the top 10 digital books sellers ever. At the first place we find 50 Shades of Grey , the opening chapter of the saga erotic starring Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey. The book E.L. James, which was made into the film with Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson , thus achieves the enviable goal of being the best-selling of all time and kindle -mutatis mutandis – the most popular book of these early 2000s.

The fortunes of the saga of 50 Shades, however, does not end there. The second place is occupied fact DA50 Shades of Black, the sequel to the first book and also in the process of transformation into a film (scheduled release, February 2017). Unfortunately, E.L. James fails by a whisker to win the first three positions, as 50 Shades of Red , the third and final chapter of the story, is a close fourth behind “Gone Girl” of Gillian Flynn, thriller recently brought to film by David Fincher and Ben Affleck (“The Love Liar”). However, the saga of Anastasia and Christian Grey proves to be the most important book of the new millennium. After the first four positions, however, they are placed: “The centenary who jumped out the window and disappeared” by Jonas Jonasson; “Life of Pi” by Yann Martel; “Men who hate women” by Stieg Larsson; “Watch Over Me” by Daniela Sacerdoti; “12 Years a Slave” by Solomon Northup; “Thursdays in the park” by Hilary Void.
