Kobo has announced a new e-reader with a high-resolution display that comes into direct competition with the Kindle Voyage. The Kobo Glo HD uses the same technology of the device Amazon to provide high readability under direct sun light. The absence of some advanced features, such as automatic brightness variation, has reduced production costs. The reader of e-books will be on sale in Italy from June 1.
The Canadian company, a subsidiary of the Japanese giant Rakuten, says that the Kobo Glo HD is the e-reader that offers the display with the highest resolution on the market, at the lowest price. The 6-inch screen has a resolution of 1448 × fact 1072 pixels (300 ppi). The e-ink touch panel is powered by Map , the same choice for the Kindle from Amazon Voyage. Thanks to the high detail of the text, the user can enjoy a reading experience similar to that of the printed paper. Front lighting ComfortLight allows to read in the dark.
The Kobo Glo HD integrates a 1 GHz processor, 4 GB flash memory and WiFi module. There is no 3G version and lacks the microSD slot. The battery provides up to two months if the device is used for 30 minutes a day with ComfortLight and WiFi disabled. Size and weight are 157x115x9,2 mm and 180 grams, respectively.
The recommended price for the Kobo Glo HD is $ 129.99 ( 129,99 € ), 70 in less than the Kindle Voyage (not yet available in Italian).
