Kindle Paperwhite is the e-reader with E-Ink display Map exclusive to Amazon for a price of 109 € (up to Valentine’s Day then € 129) including postage with withdrawal within 30 days, a way to test it before the decision to buy it.
Kindle Paperwhite is certainly the best e-reader of Amazon , but not the absolute best in the now vast market of e-readers. Compared to the previous model have been eliminated the physical buttons, someone did not like this choice, in favor of the use of the touch.
Display, materials, aesthetics .
They seem solved problems of yellow halos that some users complained on the previous model, building good although in appearance does not seem to have in my hands a premium model, not a smartphone and not a tablet, but it should not have too look nice?
The display has a 6-inch diagonal HD resolution of 1024 x 758 pixels with a density of 212 PPI, enough for a good character display. Great contrast between blacks and whites, probably due to the new display card or, perhaps, the new lighting system, the important thing is that it is improved.
The ebook reader has a display that looks more more paper and less and less to an LCD, although I must say that the roughness of the display of Kindle Paperwhite is not very pleasant after a while ‘you use it. Definitely improved lighting system which allows not to have shadows, particularly near the edges where it is inevitable that form. Who is approaching for the first time to an e-reader should not expect the fluidity and scrolling of pages as occurs on an LCD because it is a completely different technology. An LCD display is a source of light, in a few words the light is emitted in the direction perpendicular to the screen of the person using the display so it tends to stress your eyes. An ebook reader instead gives off light in horizontal not fatiguing the view of the reader.
Another advantage which can enjoy ebooks like Edition Paperwhite is the great battery life because the screen uses the energy stored in the battery only when it is used to generate the contrast between white and black which goes to form the words and images we see on the player.
Function and use .
Kindle Paperwhite is very simple to use , the interface is intuitive and few frills, but with everything you need to enjoy in a pleasant way of reading or the purchase of an e-book from the store, which is possible only via Internet connection required for read the description of the ebook. Its interface we can find the great success of the Paperwhite (over the display card). In the top bar are the navigation keys Home and Back with the key to enter the store, one for adjusting brightness, research and for various settings. We can store e-books on both the device and the Amazon cloud.
While reading you can highlight a word or phrase, to share it on our account social, facebook or twitter, or to look for the meaning of Wikipeida or, again, to translate it into Italian if it is in another language.
The management of the reading is all entrusted with gestures to swipe left and right you browse the pages, with one from the bottom you have access to chapters for passing from one chapter ‘other. Finally with a “twist” in the upper part of the display is accessed to the navigation keys, share and change font, size and format.
Kindle Paperwhite is equipped with 256MB of RAM and 2GB of internal memory driven by an ARM processor clocked at 800Mhz, the battery capacity is not indicated, Amazon states that can reach up to two months, actually with normal use you get to ten days while keeping it on.
The page change leverages new technology (presented at IFA 2013) E-Ink Regal making a page refresh now 100 or more pages instead of 10 as was the case in previous models. E-ink Regal reduces ghosting with better management of the reader and is also available for other types of display over the Amazon card.
Conclusion .
Kindle Paperwhite is a great e-reader, it is the best or not is up to you, as I said at the beginning Amazon allows you to try it for 30 days and more up to Valentine’s Day charged 20 € less, both WiFi and 3G version, bringing the cost to € 109 for the WiFi version and € 169 for the 3G.
It has everything you need to make reading enjoyable and management reader simple thanks to the best possible technologies implemented. If you are avid readers of e-books and you have not yet tried the Kindle Paperwhite is the time to do it.
