Amazon: no more 5 GB of free storage with Kindle – HDblog (Blog)

There is a lot of talk about the new plans storage Amazon Cloud Drive launched yesterday. Unlimited Photos to 12 dollars a year and Unlimited Everything at $ 60 / year, they convinced a bit ‘all, but there is an advantage that is coming out at this time. Amazon seems to have deleted the 5 GB of free cloud offered since 2011 to all users with Kindle devices.

There are several reports of users who, today, are not longer able to use that space to store personal content to be read on the Kindle (or ebook reader app) and this is a serious problem because of the most often used functions is Send-to-Kindle , the service document conversion via email.

In fact, if you try to record new Amazon account and goes a Kindle, you do not get free storage. The “correct” way to go to have at least 5 GB as in the past is to own (and then match) a tablet Fire or be Customer First .

There is a difference, then, between owning a Kindle Paperwhite and owning a Fire HD 7. The first does not guarantee any access to storage space “extra” (stay out of this discourse space ebooks for Amazon, even unlimited) while the second has the features of all time.

It is still a question to be taken a little ‘lightly – at least until proven otherwise. It could be a technical problem , a technical problem related to the new plans or error that will be corrected in the coming hours. Reports online continue to increase but for the moment there is no confirmation or denial from the company. We will follow the story and let you know.

Update: 5 GB of free cloud space have been replaced by three months trial of one of the services Unlimited (Photos or Everything) – to be activated separately. Files down loaded in the 5 GB will not be deleted and will remain accessible, but to post new documents must subscribe to one of the plans.

Amazon Kindle gives 24 to 4 D school Pezzani – PiacenzaSera.it

A correct approach to new technologies can give birth to the love of learning and reading. For this reason the headmaster John Tiberi, driving elementary school Pezzani of Piacenza, has enthusiastically accepted the proposal to give Amazon Kindle 24 small pupils of the fourth class D. The multinational online commerce is not new to such initiatives type, in fact, in recent months have been given digital media even schools to Sarmato average Calvino.

On delivery of the Kindle were Elena Cottini, public relations manager of Amazon and Tareq Rajjal, center manager distribution Castelsangiovanni. “Amazon – said Rajjal – loves books, in fact, started its activities by selling books on line. Soon after we switched to music and movies. For us, culture is very important.”

The principal Tiberi addressed directly to students. “You were born in a time when new technologies are booming – he said – so it’s important to use them properly, because they can help to make you thrill to read more and more, and therefore also to the study.”

“Children, now we know that you are able to use computers and smartphones better than us – intervenes Councillor Giulia Pegs – This tool will help you because now a lot of education is made accessible in digital form.”

Amazon Quietly Bricked Kindle Jailbroken Devices Last Year – Techdirt

from the taking-money; -Building-walls dept

It Appears That Amazon is very serious about walling off ITS garden. Late last year, it pushed out a firmware update for ITS Amazon Fire TV devices That not only rooted devices made unusable, but Prevented Fire TV owners from rolling back to previous firmware, blackberries root-friendly versions. Apparently, anche Kindle users were included in this lockdown.

A recent post at Good Reader notes That the latest firmware for Kindles is pretty much identical to the ITS Fire TV firmware, right down to the destruction of functionality.

The new firmware was pushed out to all modern Kindle devices in late November of last year. Anything after version 5.60 will not allow you to hack the firmware and do interesting things like change the screensaver system or install custom apps.

And, like its firmware for the Fire TV, rollback to less hack-resistant firmware is nearly impossible. You can force it back, provided you have a soldering iron (and the willingness to apply it to your device) or you can follow a few not-so-simple steps to take your root access back from Amazon . But once again, it’s the company removing functionality for the only purpose of making devices perform the way Amazon wants them to, rather than leaving These sorts of decisions have to Those Who Purchased the devices.

And it’s not as though Kindle owners are receiving any heads up from Amazon about the firmware’s plans For Their jailbroken devices. No mention of it is made in the firmware’s specifications, Which only tells you about the (supposedly) good things the update will bring: vague “bug fixes and improvements.” Softpedia’s hosting page for the latest version (5.6.1) goes into a little detail blackberries, but it only contains a list of slightly-upgraded Amazon features, rather than the limitations imposed on the firmware will paying customers.

If you like Amazon’s walled garden, the company is more than happy to Ensure you never find the gate. If you do not, Amazon is more than happy to step in and brick over any openings. The latter does a huge disservice to paying customers who are looking to get the most out of something they Purchased and own , but Seems to still somehow “belong” to Amazon.

Why I Cancelled My Kindle Unlimited Subscription – Inside Higher Ed (blog)

Why I Cancelled My Kindle Unlimited Subscription – Inside Higher Ed (blog)

I just CANCELED my Kindle Unlimited $ 9.99 monthly subscription. Are you a Kindle Unlimited subscriber? Why or why not?

It would be impossible to overstate how excited I was a when Amazon Kindle Unlimited Announced the program this past summer. 10 bucks a month to browse e-books Seemed like a great deal. The repute Amazon promised to include audiobooks, and audiobooks That synced up with the Kindle books, Kindle Unlimited made even blackberries appealing.

The reality of Kindle Unlimited ended up being wildly divergent from all the hype.

While Amazon promises 700,000 e-books (and Thousands of audiobooks), almost none of these books were ones I actually want to read. The selection on Kindle Unlimited is shockingly bad. Amazon Seems To sono stati completely unable to persuade authors or publishers to join the program.

The other problem with Kindle Unlimited Is that it is difficult to discover books That qualify. There is no easy way to see Which books in your Amazon or Audible Unlimited Wish Lists are eligible. Amazon does nothing to match the books That I’ve previously Purchased or have put in my Wish list with books available through Kindle Unlimited. There is no Kindle Unlimited recommendation engine.

What would the payment of Had to sono stati to attract almost every author and publisher?

The opportunity to sample every Kindle and Audible book would be enormously appealing. I would happily pay $ 1 a day for unlimited access to digital books.

My guess Is that there are lots of other big reader out there who would be willing to pay anche a buck a day for this service.

Why did not Amazon go after the hard core reading public with a high quality and higher priced service?

To illustrated just how bad the selection in Kindle Unlimited is, I’ve copied the first screen of my Kindle Wish List. As do as I can tell, none of these books is in the Kindle Unlimited program. ( I’m curious anche if we share any books on our Wish Lists ).

In view of the rapid spread of “May the Lord SCIA with you” in kindle format, I just posted, always on Amazon, the ‘e-book “When the body tries to me: journey of inquiry in Public Administration from North to South. ” Kindle is an extraordinary system: electronic publishing is now the present and its global spread allows you to buy books at very low prices (€ 3.99, for example).
