Amazon Kindle, try without obligation for 30 days – Webnews

QR code to the original page

Philip Vendrame ,

Amazon Kindle in the 30-day trial with the option to return it and get back the money spent if the product did not meet the expectations. A test that defines Amazon as “non-binding” and that allows you to touch and try calmly all the potential of one of the many products of the Kindle family as the Fire HD 7 or Kindle Papwerwhite . Really interesting initiative by Amazon that shows once again the will to put the customer at the center. In fact, what may appear as a special promotion dedicated exclusively to Kindle products, hides something more.

In fact, Amazon, for all products sold and shipped directly, provides a right of withdrawal 30 days , against the classic 14 days standard required by law. One detail that many can escape but that emphasizes even more the quality of services offered by the e-commerce giant. So, theoretically, all products sold and shipped directly from Amazon can make use of some sort of 30-day trial with the possibility of withdrawal following the standard procedures of delivery specified within eShop. As regards, however, the 30-day trial of one of the devices Kindle, who does not remain satisfied with the product does not have to worry about the content or the configuration of the device to be returned, as this will automatically reset once received.

The family Amazon Kindle is composed of many products designed specifically to suit specific categories of users. No e-reader like the Kindle PapwerWhite with which you can access thousands of books in digital format and real tablet PC based on Android platform as the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9.

Ebook 2015: more self-publishing, Kindle Unlimited and return to fundamentals – FIRSTonline

The 12 trend

Mark Coker is the founder of Smashwords, a platform of self-publishing and distribution of ebooks based in Los Gatos, a town south-west of San Francisco with 30 thousand inhabitants . In Los Gatos also based Netflix, the company that is leading the world toward the stream.

Smashwords is one of the most interesting of the new publishing, born from nothing around the Kindle. It is also one of the best observers to scrutinize the future of this new segment of the book industry. Every beginning of the year Mark Coker post on his blog, hosted by “The Huffington Post”, the forecast on the industry of the book in 2015, Mark tells us, will see a slowdown in growth with risks and opportunities for authors and all player this industry. The scenario, however, will not stay still and we will have some interesting developments. Here are the 12 forecasts Coker. Are only conjectures, but, in general, Coker c’azzecca precisely because it is in the right place and looks very much.

1. More and more authors choose self-publishing, thus strengthening the movement of independent authors.
2. The market share of ebook self-publishing will grow.
3. The screen readers will continue to increase, but with a lower growth rate than in the past.
4. 2015 will be a year of stagnant revenues for self-published authors and traditional ones.
5. Increase competition from traditional authors against those self-published as a result of a more aggressive pricing policy by traditional publishers.
6. The big publishers will intensify the use of free content.
7. The free lose its efficacy and its upward decrease in self-published authors.
8. Many independent authors abandon the field because of economic results inferior to their expectations.
9. Time management on the part of the authors will be a decisive event. The authors will have to focus on writing and put notice other activities that consume time.
10. The new rul es on the payment of VAT in Europe be amortized ebook sales in the old continent bringing less money in the pockets of the authors who will have to absorb the cost of VAT that everywhere is more than 3% in Luxembourg which is the VAT that up to December 31, 2014 it applied to ebook purchased on Amazon.
11. Unlimited use Amazon Kindle to pay less for the authors. Despite this curtailment independent authors will not abandon the program.
12. There will be a return to the fundamentals of writing: in 2015 the authors to be bestseller must follow precise rules comportamentoSoffermiamoci check on these last two points to deepen them again according to the vision of Mark Coker.

Kindle Unlimited (KU)

Whatever you think of Kindle Unlimited, is a fact that streaming is something that will bring a revolution in the book industry. Today many authors complain about a substantial decrease in revenues, while others are convinced that KU aid to extend the base of readers. KU will have a massive effect on the situation of 2015. Unlike competing services, such as Oyster and Schrib that allow authors and publishers to set the price and get a defined proportion for each ebook considered bed (Smashwords the reserve a share of 60% ), KU draws its resources from a common fund and pay the authors on the basis of the sale price, but compensates by number of readers in relation to the size of the fund determined by Amazon from month to month by virtue of the books eligible to be considered beds. It is a mechanism complicated to understand, because it is not transparent. It is as though Amazon said authors who have sold a book “In a few weeks I will decide what pagartelo”. < /P>

This would not be a problem if Amazon was a willing partner who makes a serious effort to pay publishers and authors with 70% of royalty as is usual. But it is not so. In November 2014 Amazon has paid just $ 1.39 for each ebook that has satisfied the requirements of reading regardless of the number of pages of the book or its price. $ 1.39 is a great margin if the book costs 99 cents (99 cents a book sold on Amazon pays a royalty of 34 cents). If, however, the price is $ 3.99 and the standard royalty of 70% is then equal to $ 2.80, then the halves KU 70-35 percent. Currently on KU royalties to authors and publishers are in fact 35%.

KU is the terminus for Amazon’s model agency division of royalty. As you recall the model agency was the crux of the dispute with Hachette, one of the more traditional publishers. The model requires the agency to Amazon to turn 70% of the sale price to publishers without being able to make discounts if unauthorized. The KDP platform of self-publishing is equivalent to the model agency with the difference that Amazon can discount the price to adjust it to the lowest on the market. KU with this model disappears because the core of its raison d’ĂȘtre, namely the price of the book, it becomes irrelevant in the calculation of the royalty. Amazon also takes the liberty to pay the authors less than 70% of royalty.

Putting KU on a fast track, Amazon discourages customers from buying single ebook. Because of KU there are 700 thousand titles, even the most voracious reader has a million reasons not to buy an ebook not at full price. For readers who look at the price, an ebook by $ 2.99 or $ 3.99 is expensive when you can read it (or read a similar one) for free by virtue of their monthly subscription. The catalog KU is almost entirely made up of titles of authors or independent publishers participating in the KDP Select program with the exclusivity clause. Without the support and the backing of independent authors, KU there sarebbe.Nel 2015 independent authors make a step back to say no to KU? Despite an entire legion of authors is unhappy with how things are going, I’m sure that the perpetrators will not abandon KU. Until now, many doubts about the dangers of exclusivity were put aside and independent authors have continued to join the program. Although 100 thousand autho rs decide to retire, Amazon would still have the critical mass to offer readers a wide choice to join KU and making sure that they do not buy more ebooks individual. It is a fact that many independent authors sell little and there is no doubt that some of them you will be enchanted by the siren’s KDP Select and decide who earn $ 1.39, or less, is better than nothing. This state of things will help make even more slippery slope on which gains are slipping all authors including traditional ones.

Back to basics

The formula for success is not as complicated as the one to send a mission to Mars. To build a bestseller you have to follow some simple but strict rules. For each rule performed well the author earns valuable points. Here are the ones that are for the Marl Coker tested rules of success in the world of the book industry.

1) The author must write a super-awesome and amazing book that leaves you breathless as the reader can to satisfy him emotionally. This rule applies to both the fiction that the other genres.
2) A book to be edited and redazionato in a professional manner, there must be no negligence in that they appear as such.
3) The book must have a magnificent cover image that he does find out from readers and make it desirable to their eyes.
4) The price must be corrected.
5) must publish in booking. The book is one of the most effective promotional tools for new books. The reservation allows you to market the title in advance giving visibility and avvantaggiandolo for launch day.
6) We must avoid the exclusive and distribute the title in the broadest possible way, offering it to all retailers.
7) Write another book, cool off and get back to work. Yes, it takes at least a shower. Take the time to do it well.

Kobo Aura H2O: the full review of the rival Kindle Paperwhite [video] – EnjoyPhone Blog.it

After reviewing the Kindle Paperwhite aim the lens of our camera on the eBook reader flagship home Rakuten Kobo, the Kobo Aura H2O . Top in everything, even in the price: “ them really worth € 179? Let’s find out!

Also read | Full review Kindle Paperwhite, the best ebook reader

Unboxing

The white box our Kobo does not open easily; we find inside the device, a USB-microUSB, two booklets (not sure what it says, so you usually look at the reviews to find out the features and then those not needed) and a piece of cloth to clean the screen.

 Kobo2

Hardware

The Kobo Aura H2O is absolutely the top regarding the build quality, hand is very solid, no creaks and flexes and materials in hand give a ‘good feeling.

Dimensions 179 x 129 x 9.7 mm at a weight of 233 grams. The Kobo Aura H2O is certified IP67 so no problem in case of water (Water resistant up to 30 minutes immersed up to 1 meter deep in liquids) or sand. The display is 6.8 inches with a resolution of 1430 x 1080 that bring the density of 256 pixels per inch: excellent!

The display has the E-Ink technology Charter which guarantees a contrast really high and a ghosting virtually nonexistent with a screen refresh defaults every 6 pages changed.

 Kobo3

The screen is illuminated by a series of LEDs placed in the frame of the reader and the homogeneous diffusion of light is ensured by technology ComfortLight, in practice an opaque film that reduces both the reflection of external light illumination is equal at all points of the display. The result is really excellent.

The back cover is rubberized and is not symmetrical lines, personally I find it very beautiful and has a very good grip. The edges of the screen are a plastic smoother and fingerprints reign supreme. Comfortable being able to clean the player with a wet sponge without worrying about ruining it.

 Kobo4

The only physical button, power and off, is located in the upper part of the reader. At the bottom, protected by a door, we find the microUSB port and microSD. Memory expansion is a plus not just for this fact Kobo allows you to expand the already good 4 GB of internal memory with cards up to 32 GB that will allow us to get your hands on more books than we can read it in all our life!

The connectivity in addition to microUSB port, is guaranteed by an ‘antenna with standard Wi Fi b / g / n. The speed of the network connection is decent (other devices do best …) and unfortunately, there is no version of the reader with 3G connectivity.

The processor with ARM Cortex A8 architecture this is 1 GHz with the presence of 512 MB of RAM.

The touchscreen is not capacitive but is assured with an infrared sensor.

Use and considerations Various

The screen is excellent: while reading surprising for both the sharpness that for contrast. The battery allows approximately 20 hours of use with an average brightness and without the help of LED lighting we can double this result.

The Kobo Store is a bit ‘confusing, you have to take my hand and the recommended books are a bit ‘rough.

A Pro’s Kobo reading practically everything: EPUB, EPUB3, PDF, MOBI, TT, HTML, XHTML, RTF, CBZ and CBR with support to images in JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP and TIFF.

 Kobo1

Insert file in the player is simple : when connected via microUSB just create a folder and enter our book, done! Or we can place the files on a microSD card and insert it into the reader. We can also use CALIBRE to convert ebooks from Amazon’s proprietary format, requiring attention to DRM (annoying).

While reading we can activate the lighting with a slide up, down to turn it off in the left edge of the screen; this feature becomes really useful.

Present the dictionary in off-line mode and also the translator, which is also used off-line. To activate it just hold the screen above the word to be translated and will open the card according to the dictionary that we have set as the default in the settings.

The infrared touchscreen does not allow multiple touches, so no pinch in or pinch out. To access the settings we have to press the center of the screen and change the font by opening the menu with the button that will appear at the bottom.

One nice feature of the infrared sensor is that it allows to implement commands even if you’re wearing gloves or we have wet hands in fact, according to my point of view, this solution is a counter for the readiness in the reception of the commands that turns out to be not very high.

The size of this Kobo are generous which is not a good thing if we think about the portability. Could be considered an added value to the display 6.8 “only if we often read pdf, therefore do not allow to increase the font size. In the video review below you will find a clear example of what I’m saying.

The browser has just enough performance. The ebook readers are not born to surf the internet but I have to admit that this device behaves better than the main competitors.

Video-Review

Conclusion

Kobo Aura H2O is a great ebook reader! Impermeability, build quality, screen, microSD port and file management make it the best player on the market.

The price confirms: € 179 are indeed numerous and would be justified if the player had not defects and instead has touchscreen not responding quickly to commands (sometimes lose them right), the change speed of the pages is only fair and the browser goes bad enough (and I expect this figure to at least read the email or have a train ticket to show to the controller without cursing the slow overall).
