E-ink to 32,000 colors, but before a Kindle will take time – Tom’s Hardware

The E-ink technology Color is now available but at least for the moment will be used only for the digital signage . The US giant of the same name, which provides its E Ink panels all the industry benchmark brand e-book reader (Amazon, Nook, Kovbo, etc.) has announced the availability of new Advanced Color ePaper (ACEP). There is talk of 32 thousand colors , without the use of filters (CFA), high brightness and reflectance. In practice, the readability is at the levels of the e-book reader, as well as consumption, but in addition there is the color.

“We expect the ACEP will become the basis for a new generation of products with electronic ink technology,” said Frank Ko, president of E Ink Holdings, clearly referring to the world of e-book reader.

At the moment however this type of technology is not adapted to consumer needs as it is still expensive to produce and does not offer a sufficient speed of update . The prototypes unveiled yesterday during SID Display Week have a diagonal of 20 inches and a resolution of 1600 x 2500 pixels (150 PPI). The production will begin within two years.
