New Kindle Paperwhite, the ebook becomes social - WebNews

Into Amazon today announced the new Kindle Paperwhite, , the second generation of the ebook reader’s flagship American. The announcement was more or less in the air. The Paperwhite Kindle WiFi for a few weeks had slowly disappeared from almost all the Amazon store in the world (in Italy was no longer in July).

Into The new Paperwhite, the sixth variation of the Kindle, it is equipped with a new display, a new processor and a new touch screen system. The new display indicates Amazon is designed to improve the contrast of the ebook, while the processor is faster than 25 percent compared to the previous, allowing you to open books and scroll through the pages faster.

Into The other features are almost identical to the previous model: same size, same storage memory (2GB), the weight drops t o 206 grams (was 213).

Into More than the new hardware, important are the new software that Amazon announced along with the new Paperwhite. First integration with Goodreads, the community of readers that the company acquired last March. The Kindle can now have access to a real social network based on the books. Readers will be able to add friends, see what they’re reading, what they recommend, the reviews that have created and so on.

Into Also new is the function Page Flip (in Italian Scroll page ) that iterates through the book back and forth without leaving the page you are reading, to keep FreeTime track of time spent reading and other features. The integration with Goodreads Freetime and the function will not be available immediately, but added to the device free with an update expected later this year.

Into It should be noted that integration with Goodreads and function Freetime there is no mention in the product page on the store Italian. This makes one suspect that these functions can be available only for U.S. users.

Into The preorders are already possible on the Amazon site. The WiFi version costs 129 euro, it’ll take 189 for the version Wifi +3 G. The delivery of the first examples only WiFi start in Italy October 9 (in the U.S. September 30), while the WiFi +3 G will be available from 12 November (Nov. 5).
