When it comes to eReader, you can not fail to mention the Amazon Kindle, undoubtedly considered the father of all devices for reading eBooks. And, for this, also arrived for us the time to tell you about this device.

On the market there are two different models of the Kindle, the base, which has a remarkably affordable cost, and the Paperwhite, with a higher cost but with definitely more advanced functions. In fact in the international market there is another model called Kindle Voyage in Italy that unfortunately has not arrived yet. However, no more talk. Today we are featuring Kindle Paperwhite 3G.

Key features of Kindle Paperwhite 3G

First we must say that Kindle Paperwhite 3G is the top range of house Amazon, at least as regards the Italian store. Abroad, as already said, the Paperwhite fell to second place.
The Kindle in question maintains the dimensions of 6 “, or 15.24 cm, with a thickness of just 9.1 mm extremely negligible. The exterior is made of solid plastic with a pleasant soft touch on the back. Also on the back are the Amazon logo while on the anterior inferior, is printed the brand Kindle. Before there is no button for scrolling pages. From the aesthetic point of view, the Paperwhite is absolutely minimal and elegant thanks to its color to black.

Kindle Paperwhite options

The monitor is definitely the strong point of this device. The resolution is 212 ppi and uses a patented technology called Charter. The feeling, in fact, is just to get your hands on a paper book. The screen of the Kindle Paperwhite 3G has Frontlight that allows us to read in the dark. The light, unlike backlit screens that strain the eyes, is projected to the screen and avoid straining your eyes.

The battery, according to the manufacturer, has a duration of two months if you use the device half an hour a day with a brightness level of 10.

Kindle Paperwhite 3G, my road test

The experience of reading with Kindle Paperwhite 3G is without a shadow doubt fulfilling. The soft touch to a good and comfortable grip. Only small fault are the footprints that remain on the back. As regards the touchscreen, is definitely sensitive and the change of the page responds quickly and accurately. Among other things, the sliding system of the pages is so well designed that with any hand you keep your device, you can browse web pages without using the free hand.

Kindle Paperwhite Frontlight

The front light evenly illuminates the monitor and I must say it does not tire at all the view. In recent days, I spent several hours of the night reading and eyes were not affected. Similarly, the reading is pleasant even in daylight. The E-ink technology gives almost the same feeling you get when you read a book on paper.

A pleasant surprise in Kindle Paperwhite 3G system is the underscore. Thanks to the excellent quality of the touch screen, it’s easy and quick to point out, as it is to write a note. Until now, Kindle Paperwhite 3G has the best system underscore between E-readers that have passed through my hands. And frankly, underline text for me is almost essential. Notes, pages, and underscores can be easily shared on their social channels.

Kindle Paperwhite character

Even the vocabulary deserves to be mentioned. In addition to the Italian, Kindle offers different vocabularies according to the language of the book we are reading. Not bad. Among other things, the words you are looking in the dictionary are saved in a file called Enrich your vocabulary so they can be consulted at a later time.

The Kindle Paperwhite I tried was also equipped with 3G connection . For the uninitiated, this connection does not need any Sim card. Amazon has in fact an agreement with the phone companies so we can always access the Amazon store from anywhere in the world (almost) without paying any subscription. It is hoped, however, that in the future Amazon updates the connection to 4G.

Kindle Paperwhite logo

If you really want to find the hairs, are not very satisfied with the restriction of Amazon on the covers to be used when the Kindle is on standby. On other e-Reader you can set the screen saver displaying, for example, the cover of the book we are reading. This customization is not available on Amazon devices.

Function rather interesting is that call Whispersync through which the devices that we use for reading – and then Apple also those on which we installed the Kindle app – you synchronize automatically and then we can move from one device to another without losing your place.

The choice to use as an e-book file extension instead ePub MOBI (like all the other e-reader) is questionable.

Conclusion

Kindle Paperwhite 3G impressed me immediately. Without a doubt it is an excellent product from every point of view. Materials, processor speed, touchscreen and Frontlight are incredibly functional. The reading experience is among the best that we can find on an e-Reader. The price is not really available to everyone – we are talking about € 189 – but this is the top range of Amazon and compared to devices of the same level as the price, we are average. Kindle Paperwhite 3G is not the device to be recommended to those who approach for the first time to e-books, but for advanced users can definitely be a winning choice.
