The Internet of things and the interest of consumers – Today

And ‘one of the technology trends of 2015 (according to Gartner): is the Internet of things, Italian translation of the Internet-of-Things (IOT), one of the phenomena destined to change lives of all of us!

What is it? In summary, the Internet of Things is the process by which physical objects are connected to the Internet, enabling them to transfer data and communicate with other devices. In short, you are bothered by the fact that the paper printer in office runs out suddenly? You can use the Internet of Things to monitor the levels of card and receive a notification when you need to buy another card or even create a command that automatically sends a purchase order when paper stocks fall below a certain level.

Founded as ‘machine-to-machine-communication’, the Internet of Things with the passage of time is proving a real paradigm shift in the way people interact and objects and then (why we talk about it here) between customers and products . It ‘a path that began with small and large appliances but soon came out from the confines of our homes (beyond the home automation): objects that do not require human intervention to operate and interact, a reality that is taking place before our eyes.

Almost two thirds of consumers say they are attracted by the Italian prospect of saving time through the use of new technologies, declaring himself attracted by the opportunity to organize their lives more easily . This is also why I would say that it is a process that must be accompanied with confidence, but also with some attention.

The rules (such as those of the Communications Code) are struggling to regulate the new multiple situations in which may be you: enough to think of the issues related to privacy, the connection costs, the problems arising from the development of new business models , which complicate the contractual models and appear new subjects such as manufacturers of smart terminals, M2M service providers, suppliers of app, phone operators, etc (think of when the consumer buys a device interconnected, like a Kindle, usually equipped with a SIM, but not signing a contract for the supply a communication service).

It ‘s already clear that possible disruptions could multiply at the expense of users … one more reason not to neglect the phenomenon: the Internet of things there and soon consumers will touch it.
