Amazon, Kindle Fire HDX and blue halos - Eeevolution

Into Who owns Kindle Fire HDX complaint a screen bluish. The effect is especially noticeable with white backgrounds and it shows especially at the edges of the display. Now Amazon took the floor and adds a note to the official product page: the effect is normal is desired. Here is why.

Into know that Kindle Fire HDX has a display of excellent quality. The 7 inch version has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels (323 PPI, such as Nexus 7 and just below Retina iPad Mini) and an IPS panel with maximum brightness of 400 nits, polarizing filter to reduce glare and fidelity in color reproduction of 100% sRGB spectrum. The screen is one of its strengths, just as it was on Fire HD came out last year. So why does this blue glow so obvious as to cause the required return? We begin by saying that all LCD displays are this slight tinge to the edges, is part of the technical characteristics and is due to backlight. Okay, but why on Kindle Fire HDX is blue and white as usual? Because Amazon has used the blue LED for backlighting.

Into The notes accompanying the order page of the tablet – even the Italian – reads:

Into You might notice a thin and pale blue halo near the edges of the screen when you observe books or web pages with white background. All screens have a certain level of emissions in the vicinity of the edges, the light of HDX Kindle Fire 7 “is blue because of the technology used to ensure perfect color reproduction. The majority of LCD uses white LEDs and then get the desired color using the filters. The result is often a compromise between hue and color accuracy, or an increase in terms of weight and power consumption of the battery in the cases in which one tries to avoid this compromise.

Into Our approach is different. To achieve a perfect color reproduction on Kindle Fire HDX 7 and at the same time kept to a minimum battery consumption and weight of the device, we used blue LEDs, not white. Blue LED allow for accurate color reproduction and realistic, and provide up to 20% more energy efficient.

Into And this explains why. It ‘a note that makes sense, that does not tell fibs from the technical point of view. But the issue is very complex because the hue of the light and glow visible varies depending on the ambient temperature. In some contexts will be more evident (guess in environments completely dark, for example during nocturnal reading) while in others only hinted. It ‘sa bit like the yellow halos Kindle Paperwhite (resolved in the new model – see review), which forced the company to add an official note to explain what had taken and what the consequences of flaws.

Into HDX Kindle Fire will be available in Italy from 13 November 2013. You can book for 229 Euros. Personally, from what I can see in the photos and videos that I have pasted above, the blueness is not trivial, but it can be taken for what it is: a cold calibration RGB spectrum. There are at least ten reviews in Kindle Fire HDX ready to praise the display, the quality of contrast and sharpness given by the density of pixels, not surprisingly, the tablet Amazon in the movie watching one of his strong points. But I speak without having seen the tablet live without personally have noticed the effect, and it will be difficult to do so because the company does not distribute in shopping malls Italian (appearances by Unieuro not included). I follow the thing waiting for more feedback. If you are interested further, there is an interesting post on MobileRead. For the rest: Have you seen a Kindle Fire HDX live? Have you noticed the effect? ??
