Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7: Review with specifications and final judgment - PassioneTecno

The offer on the Amazon Kindle Fire is constantly expanding, and the new HDX models are the latest additions to the series. The HDX comes with a 7-inch display with resolution of 1920 × 1200 pixels and a pixel density of 323 ppi, and has exactly the same design as the Fire, with angular cuts in the rear. The keys are flush, however, much easier to find and use than the old Kindle Fire. The build quality is excellent, and we particularly loved the retro soft to the touch, though not rounded corners make it less comfortable to hold in your hands. There are only two ports: one for the headphones to the right and a Micro-USB port on the left. Unlike the Kindle Fire without a camera, the HDX has a webcam which can capture video at 720p and can be used for Skype calls . At the top, in the back, there is a shiny strip which houses the stereo speakers, powerful sound, good for watching videos or listening to music. The name refers to the new HDX screen of the Kindle. Has a higher resolution than a normal HD (reaches up to 1920 × 1200) and is able to reproduce the 100% of the sRGB gamut. The photos appear incredibly vivid colors but at the same time realistic. It is also very bright, and wide viewing angles. Unfortunately, in order to cover the sRGB gamut and not compromising battery life, Amazon has used the blue LED instead of white. In most cases you will not notice, but any screen with a white background, or light, has some obvious blue stripes on the corners. The blue light comes out from the LEDs and you can not avoid. From the point of view of archiving data, you can choose between the models 16, 32 and 64 GB. Bluetooth is basic in all models. Equipped with a 800 quad-core Snapdragon processor at 2.2 GHz, the HDX Fire has outstanding performance. We have not found any kind of hesitation or uncertainty in any of our tests, and the dual-antenna Wi-Fi performs their job well. Amazon claims that you can expect 11 hours of mixed use with the battery (non-removable), or 17 hours reading books. With our test video playback continues, the HDX has arrived six hours and thirty minutes. All this at full brightness, half the volume and Wi-Fi turned on: a hard test. But other tablets, such as the Google Nexus 7, have lasted longer. The operating system has been updated to version 3.0 OS Fire “Mojito” and now several problems that plagued older versions have been fixed and the system is easier to use. Virtually everything can be saved to the cloud, what justifies the two buttons “Cloud” and “Device” at the top of each section. Normally you have the view Cloud, and touching something you download it immediately. For how good all these improvements, the Fire HDX is exactly the same as other tablet Fire: stuck in the world of Amazon . It is not a problem limited to buy ebooks or audio books from a list so provided, but the choice of app store that provides the Amazon remains far behind compared to standard devices with Android. You will not find even the Google app. There are third-party paid app providing access to Google Maps, Gmail and YouTube, , but it is a pity that the official free app is available.

JUDGEMENT The Fire HDX is a great choice for those users who do not have the need, or desire, to gain access to the endless world of apps Google Play Store, and may therefore benefit from advantages of closed ecosystem, safe and easy to use.
