Washington Post, app for free on Kindle – ANSA.it

(ANSAmed) – ROME, OCTOBER 8 – The Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who also owns the Washington Post, has to increase considerably newspaper readers by installing a free app of the Post on the new Kindle, the popular reader and tablet giant of Seattle. The content available ‘free’ on Kindle will be available for a fee on rival platforms from Apple and Google.
The indiscretion, not yet confirmed, comes from the magazine Bloomberg Businessweek: The application should offer readers a selection of articles , news and pictures from the newspaper and will be pre-installed for free on the new Kindle Fire 8.9-inch, which should be launched from Amazon in the next few months. On Google Android and Apple’s iOS, however, the app can be downloaded free of charge but there will be a monthly subscription, yet to be determined, to access news and content of the magazine.
The transaction underlines Bloomberg Businessweek falls within the ‘Project Rainbow’ by which Bezos intends to increase digital readers of the venerable newspaper USA. Strategy already fielded with agreements with several regional newspapers and websites. Bezos has purchased the Washington Post a year ago to $ 250 million and has been undergoing an extensive renovation project. Last month, he appointed editor of Fred Ryan, a former assistant to President Ronald Reagan and a founder of the news website Politico.
